针对我国大学英语教学长期存在重语法、轻文化,重语言能力、轻交际运用的现象,从新修订的大纲要求提高学生文化素养出发。

More stress has long been laid on grammar and competence but less on culture and performance in our college English teaching. To counter this tendency and to start from improving the students' cultural accomplishment stipulated in the newly revised syllabus, this paper probes into the specific use and function of background teaching and literary teaching in culture so as to draw high attention of both the teacher's and the students' to culture, a deep rooted issue.
