手势新论──麦克尼尔的手势语言辩证观

An overview of McNeill's theory on gestures──A dialectic of gesture and language

美国心理学和语言学家麦克尼尔积数十年的研究成果，对手势和语言与思想的关系提出了全新的现点，即手势语言辩证现。按照麦氏的理论，手势是语言的有机组成部分，二者是同一。理过程的两个方面，属同一系统。本文从麦氏对手势的界定、其主要论点及手势与语言的辩证关系三个方面介绍这一手势新论。

Using data from decades of research, David McNeill, an American psychologist and linguist, puts forwarda new theory of gestures, Which he calls 'a dialectic of gesture and language'. In this new theory he argues that'gestures are an integral part of language as much as are words, phrases, and sentences-gesture and language areone system.' This paper attempts to give an overview of three aspects of McNeill's theory: his definition of gesture,the main themes of his theory and the dialectic relationship between gesture and language.
