从职业背境看语言态度的分层

Language attitudes and social mobility in Hong Kong

本文旨在报导一项社会语言学有关语言态度研究的成果，研究的焦点是香港人对广东话及普通话的态度，理论基础是语言的亲和力和语言的地位价值。本文的资料来源于作者于９４年夏天在香港对来自各阶层及具有不同背景的１０３名受试者所进行的调查，以主观反应测验、问卷（定量数据）及访谈（定质资料）三项方法作为调查工具。调查中作者将所有受试者依其职业背景分为四类：在职、在学、主妇及退休，以深入验证社会背景这个变项与个人语言态度的关系。结果发现职业背景这一变项与港人如何看广东话和普通话的地位价值，有很密切的关系。

Abstract This paper presents some findings of an empirical study on attitudes of Hong Kong Chinese people towards Cantonese and Mandarin in the 1990s. The findings were based on 5 months' field study in Hong Kong in 1994, using a combination of a matched_guise test (MGT), a questionnaire, and a semi_structured interview. The results show that the socially more mobile group accorded Cantonese with significantly lower status than the socially less mobile group across the two quantitative measures.
