考据学与科学语言学——梁启超、胡适论中国传统语言研究方法

Evidential investigation and scientific linguistics

本世纪上半叶的两位思想家，梁启超和胡适，对中国传统的语言研究方法—考据—作过一番评析，其说相当详实，发人深思，可惜多不录于中国语言学史著作。本文拟简述梁、胡二氏之说，并联系西方科学语言学的形成。

Abstract Liang Qichao and Hu Shi, two well known Chinese thinkers in the first half of the century, reviewed very extensively China's evidential investigation (kao jü) , a traditional method in linguistic studies. Their insightful comments, unfortunately, are little recorded in our history of linguistics. The paper briefly surveys their work and, in reference to the growth of scientific linguistic studies in the West, analyses the pros and cons of evidential investigation.
