A Discussion on the Ancient and Modern Records and their Compilation and Revision

本文论述了我国具有优秀文化传统的地方志的起源、历代方志的编修及发展概况，对各代主要地方志编纂成果进行了分析评估，指出了党的十一届三中全会后，为适应改革开放、建设社会主义物质文明和精神文明的需要，继承发扬祖国优秀文化传统，在全国掀起大规模的编修社会主义新地方志的必要性和重要性。

After demonstrating the origin, development of regional annals compilation in China and analyzing and evaluating these works, the author stresses the necessity of inheriting this cultural tradition and the importance of compiling and revising regional annals so as to strengthen the socialist material and spiritual civilizations.
