This is the first time that the accomplished contemporary American poet, Richard Wilbur, is introduced to the Chinese audience. In addition to an introduction to the prose works he wrote during World War II, this paper concentrates on a discussion of the artistic merits of his early poems, particularly of his achievements in the poetical form. It concludes with a method which the author thinks appropriate for the reader to adopt in approaching Mr. Wilbur's poetry.
