Zhang Binglin's Influence on the Creation of the Japanese Writer Akutagawa Ryunosuke

1921年，章炳麟在上海寓所与前来拜访的芥州龙之分会面。章炳麟对日本民间传说中“桃太郎”形象的批判，使芥川深为震撼。之后，芥川根据这个民间传说创作了小说《桃太郎》。芥川笔下的桃大郎一改民间传说中被日本人崇拜热爱的形象而成为彻头彻尾的侵略者。《桃太郎》之后，芥川又创作了多篇具有强烈反骨精神的作品，这表明章炳麟的日本观对晚期芥州龙之介文学具有极其深远的影响。

In 1921, Zhang Binglin met Akutagawa Ryunosuke who was a visitor to his residence in Shanghai. The latter was shocked at Zhang Binglin's severe criticism on the image of Momotaro in Japanese folk tales. Later Akutagawa Ryunosuke wrote the novel Momotaro on the basis Of the folk tale. In his novel, he turned the image of Momotaro much worshipped by the Japanese intO an out-and-out invader. After Momotaro, Akutagawa Ryunosuke created some works Of very strong rebellious spirit. This shows Zhang Binglin's view on Japan exerted great influence on the later period of Akutagawa Ryunosuke's literary creation.
