Abstract Writings about Lu Xuns A Madmans Diaries in the past 80 years or more are beyond count, and the studies of the novel seem exhausted.The present article takes a cultural approach,exploring the madmans cultural character and the novels cultural value and its peculiar manifestation.In such a perspective,the study gives a new interpretation of the writers first outcry on the eve of the May 4th Movement.
