On the Macrocosmic and Microcosmic Approaches to the Studies of Chinese Literary History

本文是韩国中国语文研究会和高丽大学中语中文学科共同主办、1 998年 1 2月在汉城举行的“中国文学史的宏观与微观研究”国际学术讨论会的两个主题讲演之一。作者认为 :目前必须在中国文学史的宏观研究方面取得较大的突破 ,才能在总体上推动中国文学史研究的进展。为此 ,作者提出并论证了宏观研究方面应该重视的几个问题 ,包括文学观念的检讨、马克思主义的坚持、文学史分期的确立、“古代文学”与“现当代文学”分界的打破等。同时 。

This is one of the two key speeches in the International Conference on the Macrocosmic and Microcosmic Approaches in the Studies of Chinese Literary History,which was held in December 1998, Seoul, South Korea. The author holds that in order to advance the studies of Chinese literary history as a whole it is necessary to have a breakthrough on the level of macrocosmic study.Based on this conviction,the author raises and discusses several issues which we should pay special attention in terms of applying macrocosmic approach in the studies of history of Chinese literature.These issues include the reexamination of literary concepts and theories,the insistence on the practice of Marxism,the establishment of periodization of literary history,the break down of the boundaries between classical,modern and contemporary literature,etc.The essay also emphasizes the importance of microcosmic studies and discusses their current problems that should draw scholars’ particular attention.
