This paper seeks to explore the academic value of the speeches made by Charles Dickens.A variety of evidences are provided to show that Dickens' speeches are not only conducive to our understanding of Dickens' literary works,but also conducive to our knowledge of the situation of literature,especially that of the novel,during the Victorian period.The author further argues that an appropriate study of these speeches will shed light on Dickens' literary outlooks.
