Abstract In this paper,the author conteds that before one tries to understand history,one has to take in to consideration the dual character of history itself.On the one aspect,history is manisfested in the outward activities of human behaviors,while on the other it is at the same time the inward activites of human minds.Only a synthesis of the two makes up the complete panorama as well as as the full content of history.As a corollary to this,the historian should have to cope with both the duality of history and the duality of historiography simultaneously.
