Abstract A”history-mania”rose in the Soviet from 1987. Newspapers and magazines published a vast number of articles. interviews, reports and literary writings, reassessing almost the whole history of the Soviet Union.It was set off by Gorbachev with the intention of moulding public opinions for his 'perectroika'.Gorbachev put forward to fill in 'gaps in history'.This actually meant rewriting the whole history of Sovie Union. At the beginning, few professional historians in the Soviet Union participated,but later many of them under pressure joined in the 'history-mania'. Such'history-mania'confused the thinking of Soviet people and contributed largely to the collapse of the soviet Union.
