Xu Fuguan:an outstanding member of Chinese intellectuals of the 20th century

徐复观是现代新儒家的重要代表人物.本文着重考察作为知识分子的徐复观之学思与经历.第一部分“学术与政治”论及徐既关心政治,但又坚持学术独立和不屈从于政治的态度.第二部分“传统与现实”讨论作为文化保守主义者的徐对传统与现实的阐释.第三部分“中学与西学”探讨徐对中西文化的独特看法.

Xu Fuguan was an important exponent of modern neo-Confucianists. The article is focused on a discussion about the thoughts and experiences of Xu as an outstanding intellectual. The first part , Learning and Politics,is concerned with Xu's attitude towards learning and politics, showing that he concerned himself with politics but remained independent of and unyielding to politics. The second part,Tradition and Reality,is devoted to a discussion about Xu's views on Chinese tradition and reality as a conservative intellectual. The final part,Chinese Culture and Western Culture,expounds his insightful views on these two cultures.
