On March 19, 1990, Li Yuanzheng, who had served as deputy director of the Beijing Woolen Mill for eight years, became board chairman and general manager of the Snow-Lotus Cashmere Co. that, with 56 million yuan of losses, was on the brink of bankruptcy. After eight years of efforts, the company is now able to produce 500,000 sweaters annually, with its products sold in more than 30 countries and regions worldwide. The company has also been cited as an outstanding foreign-funded enterprise in Beijing for six consecutive years. Li himself, accordingly, has won a series of honorable titles. To further enhance the company's competitiveness and economic returns, Li decided to build a new factory in the Yanqing Economic and Technological Development Zone in suburban Beijing. The project will help enhance the company's annual sweater output to 1 million pieces. Goals have also been set to turn the company into an export-oriented highly efficient conglomerate through association with related domestic businesses.
