THE AMERICAN CENTER OF GRAVITY IN THE STUDY OF INTERNATIONAL POLITICS

Abstract This article, proceeding from the study of international politics, examines the source and formation of American hegemonism in the contemporary world. It discusses (1)the manifestation of the American center of gravity in the international studies of the West; (2) the cause of its formation in historical terms; and (3) the systemic reason for its making in the perspective of neo-liberal state. It then dwells on the possibility of the disappearance of the American center of gravity. The article stresses that the role the United States plays in international politics is a fairly complicated politico-economic and histro-cultural phenomenon. The explanation of its existence and role, including its problems and the solution to these problems, has to be sought in the light of American neo-capitalism after the Second World War.
