对当前中美关系及其发展前景的几点看法

江泽民主席去年１０月访美，使正处于十字路口的中美关系实现了方向性转折。今年６月，美国克林顿总统访华，是中美关系中的又一件大事。美国对华政策侧重点出现新变化，在最关键的台湾问题上，也随之有了微妙变化。美调整对华政策的根本原因在于：其安全战略思想出现重大变化和中国全球战略地位上升等。中美关系前景：美将继续实施“全面接触政策”，对反华势力予以遏制；不会放弃对中国采取防范和遏制举措，具体问题上会有碰撞；美国内政策可能继续产生负面影响。中美关系的改善和发展将是一个长期、曲折的过程，不可能一帆风顺。只要中美两国抓住机遇，共同努力，就能把健康、稳定。

Abstract President Jiang Zemin's visit to the US in last October marks a turning point of direction for the Sino US relations, which had been standing at the crossroads. President Clinton's visit to China this June was another major event in Sino US relations. New changes have emerged in the priority of the US China policy. Consequently, delicate changes have also taken place on the most critical question of Taiwan. The fundamental reasons for the US to readjust its China policy lie in the major changes in US security strategy thinking and China's rising strategic position in the world. The background of Sino US relations is as follows: the US will continue to pursue its “all round engagement” policy and contain anti China forces; the US will not renounce measures to guard against and contain China; clashes may take place on some specific issues; domestic factors in the US may continue to adversely influence Sino US relations. The improvement and development of Sino US relations will be a long term and twisted process, and it is not going to be a smooth sailing. As long as the two countries grasp opportunities and make joint efforts, a healthy, stable and developed relationship will be brought into the new century.
