AbstractMajor powers in the world, in 1997, readjusted to a great extent their mutual relationship. Proceeding from maintaining their respective strategic interests, all of them seek to gain the most desirable place in the world arena. 1997 saw a major change in the Sino US relationship. Such a change is an important component in a series of readjustments of major powers' relations. The readjustment of relations among major powers is beneficial to stabiltiy and development in the world. At the same time, in the major powers' relations cooperation and competition, coordination and conflicts, and engagement and containment coexist. Such a feature in major powers' relations decides that corresponding policies they pursue are dual natured.
