Abstract Britain and America have been close allies and have cooperated widely in international affairs since the Second World War.The fundamental reason for the formation and development of this partnership is such epoch making changes in the power structure of the world as the relative decline of colonial powers, the establishment of new socialist states and the rise of developing countries. Britain and America have been the major defenders of the world oredr left by colonialism and imperialism. But this order in the postwar period has been severely challenged and brought into gradual transformation by the communist movement, the national liberation movement and the struggle of developing countries for a new world order. In facing such challenges, the two countries have had close cooperation in many ways, most strikingly in the military field. The Anglo American strategic partnership exists not only in the confrontation with the Soviet Union, but also in actions dealing with developing countries. It is in a sense the axis of the alliance of developed capitalist countries.
