Iris Murdoch is an outstanding post-war British writer of international renown, prolific in literary as well as philosophical writing . In spite of her own denial her novels are philosophical , philosophical in the sense that they are seriousl interested in a system of ideas. The subjects Murdoch retums to again and again include goodness, love, power and egoism Her novels are, in a way, a fictional illustration and artistic representation of some of her most essenial philosophical ideasThis paper attempts to make a general survey, in a necessarily schematic fashion, of Murdoch' major works and their moral and philosophical implications.
