简论现代西方译论的艺术观与科学观

A brief remark on the artistic and scientific approaches in the western modern theories of translation

本文通过对现代西方有代表性的翻译理论的简要考察，分别揭示艺术现和科学观各自的两重性及其综合趋势，从而有力证明两种观点的必然统一：即，两种片面性的现．点实际上是内在联系和相互渗透的，翻译活动只能合理地理解为艺术创造性与科学忠实性的辩证统一。

Through a brief inquiry into some representative modern theories of translation in the West , the paper reveals the duality of both artistic and scientific approaches to translation and the tendency of their synthesis, and thus cogently justifies the inveitable unity of the two approaches ; that is, the two one-sided positions are actually interrelated and interpenetrating,and translation can only be reasonably looked upon as both creative artistic and faithful scientific activity.
