Saul Bellows first two novels:Dangling Man and The Victim, which the author himself disparages, present the prototype of Bellovian heroes, who are oversensitive, introspective, sceptical urban misfit modern men (often represented by Jews)yearning for meaningful lives and moral regeneration, though both novels tight structure and melancholy style are not typical of Bellows best.
