In philosophical circles of the West there is a popular point of view: 'unlimited mass' by Anaximander has extricated itself from concrete properties and forms of radical elements such as water, earth, fire, air, ect. proposed by ancient philosophers, and is'matter in general or universal material'without any special limitations. The author of this essay holds that all the arguments raised to prove this point-such as comments by Simplicius and Aristotle who thought that the opposites (hot and cool, dry and wet)emerged from 'unlimited mass 'and that 'unlimited mass 'was the unity of all elements opposite each other-actually can prove nothing. So long as we regard the development of philosophy by the school of Miletus as a reasonable process with internal relations, we will readily accept this point.
