The paper presents a detailed study of the development and achievements of contemporary Chinese novelle. The new era novelle,as compared with those created during the seventeen-year period just after the founding of the People's Republic of China ,arc characterized by a wider range of themes , a greater variety of character portrayal and more truthful and profound reflection of life. The writers are making efforts to give a more revealing inner-world presentation while attempting new forms which are psychologically structured ,or are combining plots and psychological structures as well as those which are of letter style. The paper also inquires into the main causes of the creation prosperity and the remarkable achievements of contemporary novelle.
