The Yue State, which was founded more than 2000 years ago and made Huiji its capital , exerted strong cultural influence. In destroying the Wu State, Gou Jian.the king of Yue,used'the five colours 'and'the five notes (of traditional Chinese music)as a major means of undermining the enemy state. Discoveries of the earlier Liangzhu and Hemudu culture show how biased the idea of 'highly valuing the ancient Central Plains culture and undervaluing ancient Wu and Yue culture'was. Such bronze ware as the King of Yue's sword, a model of the house of female dancers,a staff carved with totem figures of turtledove, and different kinds of musical instruments have been unearthed throughout the regions south of the lower Yangtze River. They have decisively proved that ancient Yue people made a notable contribution to the 'rites','music'and formative arts in ancient China.
