The economic cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region is not an isolated phenomenon.GATT, a multilateral trade talk mechanics, has evolved to the World Trade Organization through Uruguay-round negotiations- At the regional and sub-regional level, European Community developed in 1992 to a single market and turned later on to the European Union. In the Asia-Pacific region, ASEAN is accelerating its process of building a free-trade zone and NAFTA is already in form, in addition to the Australian-New Zealand free trade zone which is developing to a single market.
