A Review of Introduction to Montague Semantics by Dowty et al

蒙太古(Richard Montague)在他的“正确描写一般英语中的量词”(The ProperTreatment of Quantification in OrdinaryEnglish)中提出了一条独持的描写自然语言语义的路子,这条路子后来就被人们称为蒙太古语义学。

Montague Semantics concerns itself with 'The Proper Treatment of Quantification in OrdinaryEnglish' (PTQ), which, however, turns out to be difficult to follow without a knowledge of for-mal semantics. This article deals with the first seven chapters of Imroduction to Montague Semantics (1981)by D. R.Dowty et al. Although it strictly follows the order of IMS in the presentation of theseartificial logic languages, the present article is organized into four parts using the .following head-ings: (1) Characteristic Features of Montague Semantics; (2) Systems of Extensional Logic;(3) Systems of Intensional Logic; and (4) The Grammar of PTQ.
