Qualitative and semi-quantitative tests of glucose contents in the urine of regular players on the Jilinand Shaanxi women's football teams were carried out by the method of copper reduction after each gamethey played during the 1983 Guangzhou International Women's Football Invitational Tournament. Otherrelevant items were also examined. The tests were taken after nine games, involving an aggregate of 203persons. Results of the tests showed: 1. The liver and kidney functions of China's women football players are basically good enough tostand the stress of high-calibre internaional tournaments; 2. The positive rate in glucose tests is about one-third that in protein tests; 3. The critical values of workload above which glucose and protein appear in women halfback playerstre about 3,400m and 2,400m of running respectively; 4. The theory concerning the constancy of the threshold of renal glucose during matches is being ques-tioned.It is believed that the large quantity of acid substances produced in the player's body duringanintensive match affects the absorbing function of the small tubes of the kidney, thereby lowering thethreshold of renal glucose temperarily; 5. Tests of glucose content in urine can help prevent overwork and contribute to scientific training. They can also be used to study the psychological changes in goalkeepers.
