This paper studies the name of god, the first sentence, and the names of things in the first story of the Genesis, explores the meanings of these Hebrew words and expressions, and gauges the successes and failures of the English and the Chinese translation. It is an initial attempt to restore the true colours of the ancient Hebrew literary work.
