Research Methodology in TESL

目前国内英语教学研究方法,不少尚停留在经验阶段。根据经验进行研究,固然有时亦是一种可行的方法,但是,该方法的局限性是,在相同的情况下,两个研究人员可能由于不同的经验,作出不同的、甚至相反的结论。这样,研究结论往往缺乏准确性与可靠性,自然也就缺乏普遍意义。 目前国外英语教学研究通常采用(国内一些教学研究人员也正在开始采用)

This article begins with a brief description of the scientific method and its relevance to researchin TESL. Then, two major research methods are introduced. They are experimental research anddescriptive research which are general strategies to be followed in gathering and analyzing thedata necessary for answering the research question under investigation. Some contemporary sourcesof related research are provided so as to enable the reader to comprehend the methods clearly.Finally, suggestions are made for the choice of research methodology in TESL.
