英语系一年级美国史课的设计

American History Taught to the Freshmen

北京外国语学院英语系从1980年秋起在一年级用英语开讲美国史课,现在已是第三年。本文试就这门课的目的、设计以及参考书提出一些粗浅的看法。一、设课目的1.传授知识。

American History as a new course for the first year EFL students began as an experiment. This paperdiscusses the necessity and feasibility of the course and reports the design of the experiment. It is believed that the teaching and learning of English can be improved by combining the skill coursewith the content course as early as possible. The experience in the past three years shows that the results ofAmerican History for the freshmen seem satisfactory. The success of the course depends much on themethods of the lecture and the use of the text-book, which are also explored in this paper.
