论翻译在外语词汇学习中的作用

On the role of translation in lexical learning of foreign language

尽管翻译在外语学习中的地位几起几落 ,但它仍具有不可争辩的存在价值。本文从语言学、社会语言学、心理学等角度 ,分析了翻译在词汇学习中的重要作用 ,指出翻译不仅能帮助理解词义 ,掌握词的用法 ,提高学习者的词汇交际能力 ,而且还可以通过提供语境 ,从多方面促进外语词汇学习。

Translation, as a means to facilitate foreign language learning, has been holding a controversial position, but it has its indisputable existing value. The present paper, basing itself on the theory of linguistics, socio linguistics and psycho linguistics, attempts to identify what virtues translation may have in L2 lexical learning. It is concluded that translation can help learners in acquiring and remembering the meaning of words, in using the words, to contribute to the development of their communicative competence, and to provide context in vocabulary learning.
