对 Ｓｐｏｒｔｓ 这个英语的含义，我国体育界有不同的理解。从ｓｐｏｒｔｓ 的原义、译义、活动内容、历史形成过程和概念的定义等方面作了考析，认为它是一种同体育（ｐｈｙｓｉｃａｌ ｅｄｕｃａｔｉｏｎ） 性质与功能不同的人类活动。由于它的活动方式的严格局限性，从总体结构上讲，它不具备增强体质的功能，决不能代替以增强体质为目的的体育（ｐｈｙｓｉｃａｌ ｅｄｕｃｄｔｉｏｎ） 体系。我国体育陷入了斯泡特误区。党和政府指示，要把体育工作的重点转到增强人民体质上来，就是要走出这个误区。这是我国体育改革的方向问题。

As to the definition of sports,there are different views in the world of physical education.Through the analysis of its original meaning,translation meaning,activities,forming history and definition,the author considers sports a human activity different from physical education in qualities and functions.Because of its strict limitations of activity forms,it lacks in the function of building up health and can by no means replace physical education system in the view of general structure.Our country′s physical education is misled.Our Party and government instruct the focal point of the physical education work to be transferred to building up the people′s health,which points out the direction of physical education reform.
