本文将中国传统社会中原居四民之首的士在近代向知识分子的转化、知识分子在社会学意义上的边缘化、以及边缘知识分子的兴起这一连续、相关而又充满变化的动态进程,纳入中国社会发展的内在理路和西潮冲击下整个近代中国的巨变这一纵横框架中进行考察分析;在研究取向方面注重思想演化与社会变迁的互动关系,从当时人的心态变化入手来反观社会的变动,以尝试提出一个走向框架性诠释的思路。

This author tries to roll the followig three processes into a holistic framework of interpretation: the changing of the ancient 'shi' info modem intellectuals. the peripherisation of the orthodoxy intellectuals and the rising of the peripheral intellectuals. These three processes are subsequent and closely interrelated, forming the main trend of Chinese modern intellectual development embedded in shifting society.
