Social Transformation and the Shrinking of Intermarriage Area

在社会发生重大变迁之际,乡村传统区系网络的维持因素也渐趋消失,貌似现代的生活形态,已使乡土社会空间日益狭窄。孙村通婚地域呈明显缩小趋势,便是有力证据。孙村的情况也许特殊,但绝非偶然。它提醒人们在追寻乡村社会的日常交往轨迹时,不应拘泥于某种“普适”的解释论（如“市场圈”、“祭祀圈”理论）。以中国农村之广大,情况之复杂,任何已有的认识或定论都不可能是普适的。

This is a case study of the changing extent of intermarriage area in a Chinese small village called Sun Cun. General theory would assume that economic and trade devleopment should result in the enlargement of intermarriage area. The case of Sun Cun, however, proves the opposite -the intermarriage area shrinks as the e-conomy grows.It becomes apparent that with its enormous breadth and complexity, China defies any generalized and oversimplified theorization.
