Eight Major Trends in the Development of Linguistics in the 21st Century

21世纪在即，“回顾与前瞻”构成各学科领域的世纪“门坎”问题。综观语言学的发展现状，考察相关科学的影响，语言学研究将在八个方面发生相应的转向，即由微观转向宏观、由单一转向多元、由系统转向运用、由描写转向解释、由结构转向认知、由静态转向动态、由分析转向综合、由模糊转向精确。认准趋势，把定方向，积极主动地跟上语言学的发展潮流，方能为促进语言学的研究做出更大的贡献。

At the turn of the century, 'looking back and looking forward' constitutes an important and rewarding task for every discipline. A consideration of the state of the art and an examination of the influence of related disciplines in dicate that there will be eight maior changes in the development of linguistics in the 2lst century: from micro to macro, from unitary to multidimensional, from system-oriented to use-oriented, from descriptive to explanatory, from structural to cognitive, from static to dynamic, from analytic to synthetic, from fuzzy to precise. It is believed that only by recognizing these trends and trying to keep up with the development can one make greater contributions to linguistic studies.
