Another Aspect of Yan Fu's Translation in EST

１００年来，人们讨论的“信达雅”是严复翻译思想的一部分，本文欲探讨其另一面，即严复“达旨”的具体所指。正视并研究严复的“非正法”，有助于正确认识严复的翻译思想，并切实地指导当前的中国翻译实践。

Over 100 years,“faithfulness, expressiveness and elegancy”discussed by people are a part of Yan Fu’s translation thought.This paper aims at discussing its other aspect,namely, the actual meaning of Yan Fu's “expressing the gist”. Facing squarely Yan Fu's “nonformal method” will be helpful to correctly understanding Yan Fu's translation thought , thus practically guiding the translation practice at the present time.
