Abstract A great number of walled towns appeared in the Longshan period is a conspicuous feature and must have reflected many social and cultural changes Based on the precious studies of the walled towns in the Central Plains,this paper restudies the walled towns in the Great Wall area and believes that the appearance of the walled towns may have been related with the cultural adjustments caused by the climate change in the middle of the Holocene epoch around 3000 B C A common culture change from the Yangshao to the Longshan may also be a reason for the appearance of the walled towns and the towns themselves had a important influence on some characteristics of the following Chinese civilization
