Distinguishing 'superparentheses' from 'parentheses',the paper discusses them and the sentences that contain them on the phonological,graphological,syntactic,and semantic levels.The type of sentence containing a superparenthesis is termed a 'fused sentence.' Fused sentences are subclassified as (1) 'fused sentences:containing a relative clause',and (2) 'fused sentences: wh questions,' exemplified respectively in (1) He refused to deal with someone he thought was a fool,and (2) How old did she say the vase was?Nonfused sentences do not contain superparentheses;they may or may not contain parentheses.
