中西部落后不发达地区区域经济的发展成为当前我国经济发展中的难点、重点问题。科教兴国和可持续发展是我们的两大发展战略、中西部落后不发达地区只有依靠科技和教育走可持续发展道路，才能缩小与发达地区差距，快速发展经济。而当地地方院校在推动中西部落后不发达地区的持续发展中，起着极为重要的作用。本文试图探讨地方院校在中西部地区经济发展中的作用、地位及途径等问题。

The regional economic development of the underdeveloped middle - western part of China is becoming a focus in the economic development of China. Our economic stragety isthe thriving of China depending on science,technology and education and the successive de-velopment. Only by the way of the successive development which relys on science, technolo-gy and education in the underdeveloped middle - western region, can the region shorten the distance in the economy from the developed region. And the local institutions play a signifi-cant role in accelerating the economic succesive development of middle - Western region.The article is trying to probe the role, position and way in which the local institutions play in the successive development of the middle - western region.
