AbstractBasing on a study of the discussion on abolition of prostitution from the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom to the period around the May 4th Movement of 1919,this article pinpoints the two major historical error zones in abolition of prostitution:the existence of feudal vestiges and the lingering lack of womens consciousness of independence.According to the author,the satisfactory solution to abolition of prostitution depends on the correct guidance of a prostitution abolition theory and the further improvement of womens social status and their own qualities.
