Abstract The author believes that, just as there is no unitary feminism', there can be no Indian woman' inclusive of all people. The reannotation on the word prakriti' has provided a broad space for exploration for Indian feminist philosophy.Through an analysis of the goddess phenomenon, the sacred and non sacred maternity (especially the role played by the maternal image in India's nationalist movement) and the androgyny, the author points out that, through participation in dialogue to share others' distress,an Indian woman' may probably appear as an identity in differences.
