Abstract“Grammatical signs” refers to the grammar forms that embody the relationships betweenlanguage units in a sentence. Besides their “position” sign , the grammatical signs of Chinese-Japanese adverbs and complements include both signs of morphology and function word. Mor-phological signs exist only in modern Japanese, not in modern Chinese. Signs of a functionword in Chinese are mainly some structural auxilary words and prepositions. While inJapanese, the signs of a function word are mainly auxiliary words of complementary case. The signs of ChineseJapanese function words differ in their grammatical qualities withthe Chinese being more complicated than Japanese. Generally speaking, Japanese adverbs andcomplements must have the sign of a function word, while the Chinese does not have it. Inmost cases, the Chinese may be with or without the sign of a function word.
