Divorce is transforming the lives ofAmerican children. In the post-World WarⅡ generation, more than 80 percent ofchildren grew up with both biologicalparents. Today only half will do so. Eachyear more than a million children experiencefamily breakup; about as many are born outof wedlock. At the same time, the problemsassociated with family disruption havegrown. Over-all child well-being hasdeclined, despite historically high publicspending. The teen suicide rate has almosttripled. Juvenile crime has increased
