索绪尔的语言观开创了现代语言学，是有历史功绩的。然而现代科学技术和语言学本身的发展、社会的进步，都促使我们不得不承认索绪尔语言观的局限和缺陷。为了语言学的进一步发展和繁荣，为了更好地开发语言资源，就很有必要在现代科学的高度上，全方位多角度地对人类语言的本质特点进行再认识。这一认识一方面是对近几十年来语言研究成果的一个理论上的总结，另一方面又是引进相关学科的研究成果对语言本质的一种假设。

Abstract The understanding of the nature of language is of key importance to the founding, development and flourishing of the linguistic science and prerequisite for the exploitation of language resources. F. Saussure's contribution lies in the fact that he founded modern linguistics, however, we have to be aware of the limitations and drawbacks of his view of language,with the development of modern sciences and technology and linguistics itsself and the progress of society. It is imperative that we renew our understanding of the nature of language in a all round and multidimensioned way, whichwill be a theoretical summary of linguistic studies during thelast few decades as well as a hypothesis of the nature of language based on the results of interdisciplinary studies of language.
