Further Reflections on Translatability and Untranslatability

本文通过设计理论图形来阐述可译性、不可译性、可译度等几个基本概念及其相互关系,同时以辩证法为指导思想,探索可译性和不可译性之所以存在的理论依据——同构及其相对性原理,并揭示该原理在文化、语言等方面的体现,从而证明可译度的提高在理论上成立,在实践中可行。

This paper aims at expounding the basic concepts and interrelationships oftranslatability, untranslatability, and the extent of translatability. In line withdialectics, isomorphism and its principle of relativity in application as the theo-retical foundation of translatability and untranslatability are explored and areexemplified by their manifestation in culture and language. Expansion of the extentof translatability is theoretically tenable and practically feasible The author holdsthat the study of translatability and untranslatability is important to the practice oftranslation because it involves exploration of many aspects, such as the essence,principles, criteria and methods of translation.
