The Semantic Contradiction Between Reality & Words and Its Solutions

一、矛盾的提出客观世界是繁杂的,是无限的;而语言在形式上则是有限的。人们在使用语言描述客观世界时,便会遇到无限与有限之间的矛盾。这种矛盾的表现之一是:很多客观事物象一个个连续体,每一个连续体都可以说是由无限个点构成的,而语言只挑选其中一个或几个有显著特征的点或段作为节点,将其概念化。

This paper first attempts an advancement of the semantic contradiction between reality,which is in- finite,and words,which,for the continuum of reality,express only the nodal points and leaves the other areas unattended.The paper then analyses two solutions of the contradiction when the unattended areas need expressing:a)by resorting to a nearby nodal term,with or without compensation,and b)by coun- teracting through modification.
