Kuwait: after the Gulf War

1990年8月至1991年2月的海湾危机和海湾战争,使科威特遭受了一场空前劫难。虽然这场战争以多国部队胜利、伊拉克撤军告终,但昔日享有“海湾明珠”美誉的科威特已是千疮百孔、面目全非。如何在一片废墟上重建科威特是对维系了200多年统治的萨巴赫家族的严峻考验。经过两年多的努力,尽管战争破坏及其影响短期内难以彻底消除,但科威特的政治、经济和安全形势已全面好转。

Kuwait has been engaged in its reconstruction on ruins since the end of the Gulf War. Despite the destruction and the consequences of the war could not be completely healed and removed in a short term, by pursuing positive and proper political policies and economic reform, Kuwait has swiftly passed the most difficult time within two years. The current political, economic and security situations there are changing for the better: the domestic political situation is basically stable; there has been a remarkable success in reconstruction; and step by step, a more effective defence force is being established.
