Starting from an analysis of 'Logos' and 'Tao''s etymology, the paper compares logos-mysticism, which has its root in ancient Greek philosophy and fully reflects itself in the Bible, with Laotzu's view of Name (名), which the author believes to be the first attempt made by aChinese philosopher to explain the role of language. Both logos-mysticism and Laotzu's view oflanguage may be seen as a cult of language, a general cultural phenomenon discovered in theearly history of nations all over the world, or as a form of naturalism, if considered from theviewpoint of name-reality relations
