1991年8月29日,北京市建国饭店提前945天全部偿还了投资贷款,成为全国外商投资饭店中第一个全部还清投资贷款的企业。建国饭店的贷款行——香港上海汇丰银行驻京首席代表林洵先生说:“建国饭店很早就在海外成功地建立了她的声誉,并被银行界认为是一家在国内相当成功的企业,此次建国饭店在还款方面建立了一个非常好的声誉,并对国家的改革开放产生了良好的影响,使外资银行也产生了信心,这种信心是吸引外商及外资银行到中国投资贷款的基础。”首都各大新闻媒介在报导这一消息时称:这是中国利用外资的“成功榜样”。的确,九年多的经营,建国饭店获得了很好的经济效益和社会效益。到1991年8月底,建国饭店为国家创汇1.94亿美元。
