This paper aims at shedding light on contradictions in English.It consists of three main sections:1)subject- predicare disagreement;2)mutual promotion and restraint between linguistic elements;3)semantic oppositions.The author holds that the law of the unitu of opposites is the fundamental law of linguistic movements;that the contradic- toriness of language can be analyzed and described by putting various antagonistic linguistic phenomena into the dialec- tical net of universal associations;that a monistical view of langnage analysis could not work now.
